In an election in which was probably won on social issues, (and after which I have heard some "progressives" talk of moving to another country) I decided to take a look at how other democracies laws compare to ours:
Abortion:
U.S. - legal to ~24 weeks
France - legal to ~12 weeks
Germany - very confused, but quasi-legal up to 12 weeks provided counseling and a waiting period have taken place
Spain- Illegal
U.K.- Legal to 24 weeks
Ireland- Illegal
Gay Marriage:
U.S.- for the most part, illegal. Might be legal in one state, civil unions allowed in others
France- Civil Unions
Germany- Gay marriage, but not allowed to adopt and some finincal restrictions
Spain- Legal
U.K.- had trouble finding meaningful information
I was going to do immigration, but figuring out the laws was taking to much time. Let us leave it at this: America is a whole lot more easy going in terms of immigration than Europe. The EU allows some movement within the borders of the EU, but becoming a citizen in most countries appears to be almost impossible if you don't an ancestor who is "naturally" from that country.
